When I was in my senior year in James Monroe High School I joined a great program. This program is about “Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps”. First of all, I entered the program because it caught my attention. The way students dressed up and the activities that they made were different from the Physical Education class. Because I loved to play soccer and run a lot, I finally joined them. But I loved to wear the green uniform once a week. The Sergeants disciplined all of the students where I had to learn how to march and how to give the salute to the Sergeants who visited our class. Also, they decided that I could be in a competence so I practiced during the morning running because the competence was coming soon. One of the Sergeants trained me with the running part during the morning a whole week. Every day I was getting better and better.
The day of the test I was completely ready to take it. There were three different activities that we had to accomplish. For example, the first test activity was running. I was the first person that made it. The second part of the test was the crunches and I did great. Also, the part of the pushups was really hard for me because just holding in my arms and feet and getting down to the floor hurt me so much. I was super tired because I spent all the day in the class taking and doing the exercises. It was the thirteen times that our school was participating with JROTC program. After two months the school got the results from the program and again our school was the winner for the thirteen times. During the month of November 11, 2010 we went to march in San Fernando Parade. It was an awesome experience for me because I shared with my friends. I met new people; I was around with the persons who were in Navy and the Armed Forces and much more. The tidy uniforms and the soldiers were arranged in different rows ready to march. Before the first group started marching three air planes flew over us to give the signal that we were ready to march. Once again it was incredible for me marching with the people from high school in this event where people waited to see you and yelled to your school. I enjoyed the march because it was the first time that I was participating as a cadet in the school.
I had a lot of fun moments and I was in most of the events whether the events were a small or huge thing. Moreover, at the end of the semester we had a ceremony where all of the students who participated had been recognized with something. I was recognized with three medals and certificates. One of the medals was that I had participated in the school program. The other medal was that I ended in second place of the competence and the last one was for being an athlete and by competing. Finally, I was really impressed how many things I learned in the class.
Lucy~ Love the picture!
ReplyDeleteLucy i think this is very intresting and i bet it was very difficult. I think it's cool you went throught that because i also used to be an L.A.P.D. Youth explorer (now called lapd cadets). Both programs sound like they are similar.
ReplyDeleteLu, i like your post and i know you learn many things.
